Summer 2003 - Dogs aren’t allowed in the remarkably blue Crater Lake (OR). Using a piano spool of wire in the 19th century, Captain Clarence Dutton estimated the lake’s greatest depth at 1,996 feet. Modern sonar in 1959 established the depth at 1,932 feet. Not too shabby Capt. Dutton.
