Author Biography

Doug Gelbert is publisher of Cruden Bay Books, specialist in producing "hike with your dog" guidebooks. He has written 17 books, including guidebooks to the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and SO WHO THE HECK WAS OSCAR MEYER?, that was listed as one of "The Books That Matter For The Millenium" for the youth of the Highland Park, Illinois school district. He has compiled several "A BARK IN THE PARK" books for the southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Baltimore markets. While walking the dog, he also brings along generous helpings of local history, botany, geology, architecture and more. A lifelong dog owner, Doug estimates he has hiked enough miles with his dogs "to cross the United States and back." His current writing project is THE CANINE HIKER'S BIBLE. When not writing or hiking he operates the Dogomat Do-It-Yourself Dogwash, a two-store chain of self-service dogwashes.

Katie, a four-year old Bordie Collie/German Shepherd mix has hiked in 38 states and 7 provinces, including all the 110 parks included in A Bark In The Park: The 55 Best Places To Hike With Your Dog In The Philadelphia Region. She estimates that she has chased a stick from more than 100 species of trees and is on a mission to swim in every major river, lake and ocean on the North American continent. Katie is a charter member of the Chester County Canine Hiking Club.
