1. LACK OF CONTROL
Dogs move quickly - and unpredictably. It is impossible to retract
a Flexi-lead quickly enough in an emergency.
2. HARD TO HANG ONTO
The handle of any Flexi-lead leash is big and bulky and easily
slips out of your hand if you are caught off guard. Once on the
loose the clunky handle makes enough noise to startle your dog
and cause her to panic and bolt in an attempt to escape the handle
that is "following" her.
3. MALFUNCTIONS
Often, Flexi-leads don't retract properly - usually when you
need to bring your dog close by your side.
4. THEY BREAK
Even the most "heavy duty" Flexi-leads are still made
of plastic. Many a powerful dog will yank hard enough to crack
the assembly and ruin the mechanism.
5. RISK OF INJURY
To both you or your dog. The flying retractable rope can easily
inflict rope burns, cut and mangle fingers. If your dog bolts
unexpectedly your shoulder can be easily pulled from its socket
as the lead tightens. If dogs become tangled, a Flexi-lead can
become a tightening noose before you even have a chance to react.
6. HINDERS YOUR DOG'S TRAIL TRAINING
Flexi-lead leashes maintain constant tension on the collar so
your dog can not learn comfortable "loose leash" walking
while wearing this type of leash. You actually teach your dog
the exact opposite of what you want him to learn.
