Thanks to the dogged efforts of Stephanie
Somerset and her organization, Bay Families With Dogs, the Florida
Panhandle has a new (and rare) place for your dog to romp in
the Gulf of Mexico.
Stephanie writes, "I am delighted
to inform you that Panama City Beach has opened up a section
of their beaches for people with their dogs! It's a gorgeous
area of beautiful sugar-white sand and turquoise water, at the
intersection of an exciting new shopping and dining attraction
called Pier Park. Bay Families with Dogs assisted with the decision
by donating a pet waste station and offering volunteers to monitor
the area. You can see pictures and read the testimonials on our
web site, here: http://bayfwd.org/mainland_dog_beach.php."
Panama City is also the home of St. Andrews
State Recreation Area, whose beach is always among America's
best. Your dog can't trot along the Gulf here but the uncrowded
Grand Lagoon on the opposite side of the park will set tails
wagging. Driving down Highway 98, look for Sharky's Beach Club,
one of Ashley Judd's destinations to start a new life in the
1993 movie, Ruby in Paradise.
